The calendar has turned to page 2009 and one half year has passed by. I’ve been living in Germany for good 2 years and I can’t explain since when I began to fall in love with this beautiful country and the many nice people here around. It was not easy at the beginning, for a person whose homeland lies thousands of miles away in the orient and shares a totally different culture. But experiencing the cultural differences itself is a very interesting and enjoyable thing, during my travels, my daily life and communication with Germans, friends and strangers as well.
I can’t help thinking about those last days of my campus life before the graduation from the university in Beijing. There was a professor at the farewell party who told every student at presence: All of you have decided to spend years of life on German learning and now, your life is somehow connected to this country and its culture as well. This is not just about a big decision of your personal life, but also about the contribution you are going to make to bridge two countries far away. We are doing culture here and now it’s time to put it into practice.
This is not a stereotype because I do feel that connection, which is never ever going to be changed any more. So gradually I began to take my camera along with me and try to keep down what I saw. And now I’ve also decided to write down something here, for those feelings which ever emerged in my heart and for those days of my life which I will never forget.
I’m doing culture.
